Need Better Sleep? Read on…

How would you rate your sleep quality and quantity? I know lack of good sleep is a big issue for a lot of people so I want to share a little bit on this.

If this isn’t an issue for you, I’d be willing to bet that you know someone that does need help with this. So read on and share it if you think it will help.

Without good sleep we suffer physically, mentally and emotionally.

Lack of sleep can cause depression, anxiety, weight gain, type 2 diabetes, hormonal and thyroid issues, impulsivity, lack of empathy and creativity, lack of brain function which can lead to accidents, and many other things. Going without sleep can actually literally kill you too!

So it’s just as important as nutrition and exercise, if not more! Getting better sleep takes some adjustments but it’s well worth it.

Here are some tips:

Start winding down an hour before bedtime. Turn off electronics – TV, phone, computer.

Eat dinner 3-4 hours before bed.

Create a relaxing atmosphere where you sleep. Keep it cool, dim and quiet.

Incorporate essential oils into your routine.
– Massage them on your feet with some lotion or oil to make you feel more grounded and in your body (get out of your head and the mental chatter).
– You can also rub them on the back of your neck for the aroma.
– Oils like Lavender, Vetiver, Cedarwood, Marjoram and Chamomile are relaxing and grounding.

Go outside during the day to get some sunlight. It will regulate and reset your natural clock. Especially good for time zone changes.

Avoid caffeine after noon, or completely if you are sensitive to it.

Avoid alcohol. Although it can put you to sleep, the quality of sleep is not good.

Exercise but not within 3-4 hours of bedtime.

Avoid stressful situations before bed (don’t read the news).

Herbal teas or supplements can help you get into the rhythm of going to sleep earlier. A pretty strong tea is the Soothing Caramel Bedtime Tea from Yogi Teas. Other herbs to try are Lavender, Passionflower, Chamomile and Valerian root.

Reiki, Meditation and Essential Oils have been so helpful with sleep for my clients, among other things. If you’d like some support, I’m available to share how they can help you. Just sned me a quick email at info@jilldavenport.com and we set up a quick chat.
